Shakespeare's Will (German translation)

Eva was invited to the prestigious BILTC program at the Banff Centre to translate the beautiful play Shakespeare’s Will by Governor General award-winning playwright Vern Thiessen. The play will receive its German premiere on October 28, 2010 at Theater Wrede in Oldenburg. With some luck and some grant, Eva may be able to attend and hear her deutsche Übersetzung.

Beneath the Ice by Eva Colmers
theatre play
(actors Brendan Meyer, Alison Wells, Lisa Truong)

In January 2009, Eva traveled with Tracy Carroll to the small Inuit community of Kangiqsujuaq to do research for her youth-family play, Beneath the Ice. This far away place without trees and endlessly wide, open whiteness was magical and peaceful and with caring, creative people. The trip was supported by Canada Council for the Art and was crucial to the creation of this unique play.

>Beneath the Ice premiered at the Westbury Theatre as part of the Fringe Theatre Adventure’s season and had a very successful run from March 10 – 15, 2009.
Eva’s play was directed by Tracy Carroll and starred Brendan Meyer Lisa Truong and Alison Wells. Set & Costume was designed by Marissa Kochanski, Lighting by Guido Tondino. The unique soundscape was created by Dave Clarke and Matt Skopyk.

The play is available for production, and interested theatre companies can contact:

Mosquers Film Fest
Workshop leader and jury member

A highlight in 2009, was Eva’s engagement with the new, very creative Mosquers Society in Edmonton which encourages Albertans of Muslim background to make short films about what it is like to be Muslim in Canada.

Initially, Eva taught a directing workshop for the society - attended by a big crowd of aspiring Islamic young filmmakers ranging from age 9 – 29. Consequently, she had the honour to be one of the judges during the Mosquers Film Fest where all submitted work received its public premiere at the Myer Horowitz Theatre on May 30, 2009.
